No respite for Turkey in Veteran T20

Manama : Travels defeated Turkey by 10 wickets in the ninth match of the First Kudos Travels Veterans T20 Cricket Tournament at the Oval Ground in Busaiteen, Muharraq.

Batting first, Turkey could only manage 62 in 20 overs with Girish (12) top scoring. While man of the match Ruwan claimed four wickets, Mahesh and Ajit got two each.

In reply, Travels reached the target scoring 64 off eight overs with Ravinda (37 off 28 deliveries) and Soori (15 off 18) easing their way to a comfortable victory. The defeat for Turkey meant elimination from the competition with no points gained in its four round-robin matches.

Bahrain finished top of the standings following the completion of the round-robin stage after a thumping 126-run win over Canada.

Batting first, Bahrain scored a massive 209 for two in 20 overs with man of the match Deepak Nair (87 off 41) top scoring and getting good support from Prince (44 off 37) and Kamal (41 off 25). Tariq Zaman and Zulfqar Ali took a wicket each.

Canada in reply were restricted to 83 for five in its 20 overs with the main scorers being Jabar (28 off 26) and Tariq (21 off 10) as Stanley took a couple of wickets.

The top four clash for Saturday’s semi-finals starts from 7.15am with Bahrain taking on Canada at the Oval Ground, followed by Kudos and Travels at the Park Ground also in Busaiteen, Muharraq.
