Market Bahrain investing in Germany : envoy

Manama : Bahrain will be able to attract more investments in its major industries as well as small and medium scale businesses, if more marketing efforts targeting countries like Germany are pushed forward, remarked Alfred Simms-Protz, Ambassador, Embassy of Germany, yesterday.

During a media roundtable here, he said, “Bahrain export to Germany was at 25 million euro and the import was 418 million euro.”

“Bahrain has great advantages compared to other countries in the region; low cost of living, low cost of doing business, educated talent pool and very friendly citizens could be marketed effectively,” Simms-Protz  opined.

He added that many in Germany are still unaware of Bahrain, which should change for the Kingdom to gain more investments. Around 50 German companies are operating in the Kingdom, including DHL which employs 1,000 people.

“Bahrain can attract more investments in its renewable energy projects and logistics projects from Germany as we are the global leaders in these sectors,”  he said.

The Kingdom had recently announced more trust to renewable energy sector and also is pitching internationally as the ideal platform for companies to target the GCC, especially Saudi Arabia market.

Simms-Protz said a German company targeting equipment insulation market is planning to start its new factory in the Kingdom by September.

The ambassador noted that the human rights situation in the country is better than other nations in the region.

“There should be more efforts to restart dialogues with everyone to avoid radical elements in the society gaining an upper hand,” according to
Simms-Protz.

“Bahrain as a moderate country, which allows religious freedom has a lot of value in the region. More efforts will be made to increase the senior-level interaction between the two countries,” the German Ambassador added.
