Bahrain court jails drug mule for life

Manama: A Pakistani drug mule has been hit with life imprisonment for smuggling 99 capsules of heroin. But two other Asian men implicated in the case have been acquitted due to lack of evidence.

The Pakistani accused reportedly planned to enter Bahrain carrying 99 capsules of heroin in his stomach, but was eventually nabbed following a police tip-off. Police were notified that the defendant would be wearing a red cap and would be received by the other two defendants at the airport.

Officers initially apprehended the first defendant, but then they allowed him to meet the other defendants, so they arrested them too.

The Pakistani man was then taken to Salmaniya Medical Complex to have him disposed the capsules out his stomach.  The first defendant said he was tempted to smuggle the capsules by a stranger in his hometown, who offered him 4,000 Pakistani rupees
in return.

“The evidences submitted by the public prosecution against the other two defendants were sufficient, thus the court decided to acquit them,” the court ruling stated. The Paksitani man was also ordered to pay BD 5,000, and was ordered to be deported once he completes his jail term.
