Five Bahraini bombers get life term

ManamaThe High Criminal Court slapped five Bahraini bombers with life imprisonment. The defendants are believed to have detonated a bomb in the village of Ma’ameer amid the presence of security force members.

According to court files, police were deployed in the village to deal with a riot that broke out on August 14 last year. While police officers were removing blockades and stones to clear the roads, the explosive went off.

None of the police officers was injured in the explosion, but a police patrol got damaged. The defendants’ involvement in the riot and planting the bomb was confirmed during police investigations.

“A number of defendants were arrested in accordance with the legal procedures and were referred to the Public Prosecution,” said Chief of Terror Crimes Prosecution Advocate General Ahmed Al Hammadi.

“The findings of the investigations were presented to the court by the Public Prosecution, and included witness testimonies and detailed forensic evidence,” Al-Hammadi added.

The five Bahraini men were charged with attempting to murder police officers, possessing bombs and firebombs, rioting and participating in an illegal gathering. They were sent for trial based on witnesses’ confessions, technical reports of detectives and their statements, according to court reports. They were also fined BD 250 each for the damage they caused.
