Bahrain wins two awards for projects excellence

ManamaBahrain-based projects were among the winners at the 2016 MEED Quality Awards for Projects, in association with Mashreq.

Bahrain picked up two awards, along with Qatar. Saudi Arabia led the GCC with five awards, followed by the UAE and Oman with three trophies each; while Kuwait had one winner at this year’s edition of the annual awards programme.

John Iossifidis, Executive Vice-President and Head of Corporate & Investment Banking Group, Mashreq says: “We are proud to support the awards programme for the past four years now. The awards have definitely shed the spotlight not just on excellence and quality, but also on the award-winning projects’ valuable contribution to the economic development of the region; and the long-term viability of the projects sector by sending a clear message to the market, that quality is essential in all parts of the project management process; from design planning to engineering and construction. We wish all participants all the very best.”

Bahrain Property Musharaka Trust’s Danaat Al Madina Project (nominated by Eskan Properties Company) won the GCC Mixed-Use Project of the Year. The project created a community with 14 six-storey residential buildings (324 apartments), 4,400 square metres of leasable retail space, two office buildings, spacious green atriums and walking plazas seamlessly integrated into the development to enhance the social life of residents while maintaining adequate privacy.

Aimed at making apartment living an attractive prospect for Bahraini families, each unit has three bedrooms, a spacious living hall, a kitchen, a maid’s room, a store room and two balconies.

The Ministry of Youth & Sports Affairs’ Demolishing and Re-Build of Al-Hala Club Project won the GCC Small Project of the Year. Providing services related to sports and cultural activities, the Al-Hala club is now housed in a new state-of-the-art building that provides a convenient and comfortable environment for both staff and club members.

The project has allowed performance and facilities to be enhanced, meaning it contributes to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs’ vision.

During the scheme, an estimated total of 100 people worked onsite, creating employment for both locals and expatriates. Throughout the various stages of the project, engineers from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs were trained, enhancing their technical skills.

Now in their sixth year, the MEED Quality Awards for Projects have established themselves as the leading stamp of quality and achievement for stakeholders in the GCC projects sector.
