Bahrain jails six for arson
Manama : Six defendants accused of setting a government building ablaze have had their jail terms upheld. They were earlier slapped with 15 years behind bars each.
The Jidhafs Municipality building was torched by masked men on October 16 last year, causing damage worth more than BD500,000. A security guard was in the property during the incident, and made a narrow escape from the scene as he jumped out through a window.
He, however, was admitted to hospital with injuries. The defendants were accused of perpetrating the attack. They earlier pleaded not guilty, though prosecutors affirmed that they were the men, who carried out the attack.
The incident destroyed everything inside the building, including documents, money, computers and equipment. The video footages captured by the CCTV cameras in the building showed six masked men entering the building, dousing the interior with flammable substances and torching it.
