Bahrain Model centres mooted

ManamaAs a follow-up to the Egypt Economic Development Conference (EEDC) in Sharm El-Sheikh from March 13-15, an “Arab Entrepreneurs Symposium: Towards Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development” as held in Cairo on March 17, 2015.

Based on the forum, Egypt has been selected as a pilot country for institutionalizing the Bahrain Model in an effort to promote and unleash the spirit of entrepreneurship in Egypt.

Four “Entrepreneurship & Innovation Centres” have been established, in cooperation with the Social Fund for Development and with the support of the Arab Union for Small Enterprises (League of Arab States) in Cairo, South Egypt, Suez Canal area, and Alexandria.

The Centres aim at implementing the Bahrain Model for the promotion and development of entrepreneurship, in addition to the provision of non-financial services to encourage the youth in developing businesses in various sectors.

The Centres also provide support services to existing MSMEs to expand and grow their current operations.

To further empower the capacities of the centre’s staff in Egypt, ITPO Bahrain organized a specialized capacity building programme in Bahrain from May 23 to 26 inclusive on “Incubation Management Systems” based on the Bahrain Model.

It saw participation of 12 experts from Egypt representing the Social Fund for Development, the University of Alexandria and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport. This is in addition to two participants from Sudan representing the University of Khartoum and one from the United Arab Emirates representing the Abu Dhabi Businesswomen Council.
