Need of quality health care, patients’ safety stressed

ManamaUndersecretary of the Ministry of Health Dr. Aisha Mubarak Buanq inaugurated the Quality of Health Care and Safety of Patients Conference, organised by the Legends Convention and Exhibition Company, under the slogan of “Commitment to excellence and safe practices in health care.”

A medical team of President of the Supreme Council of Health Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa attended the conference besides senior officials as well as heads of departments at the Ministry of Health and a group of medical and nursing staff.

Dr. Aisha Buanq, who gave the opening speech, confirmed that the slogan of the conference reflects the need to invest efforts and resources in the development of preventive strategies, and raising the level of awareness among health staff about quality of service and safety of patients. This covers potential risks, as well as the importance of applying standards, policies and procedures relating to this area. 

She noted that the Ministry of Health is working to improve the level of health services provided to citizens and residents through the development of national strategies and policies as well as development programmes to upgrade the competency of health personnel by holding training courses, seminars, workshops, and participating in local, regional and global conferences.

Dr. Buanq explained that the quality of health care and patient safety is one of the important projects that have been worked on to ensure the care provided to patients. The principle of quality in health care has become a cornerstone in the health sector, which is why the Ministry of Health has made several important initiatives in the field.

Dr. Buanq indicated in her speech that, at the regional level, the Ministry has adopted some initiatives in the field of patient safety such as the International Patient Safety initiative for infection control initiative, where Bahrain implemented the policy of “clean care, safe care”. It also participated in the World Health Organisation programme to monitor antimicrobial resistance to antibiotics, in keenness to contribute to strengthening the global database and actively participating in facing the steady increase in the risk of microbial resistance to antibiotics.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health honoured Shaikh Mohammed as well as Prof. Ahmed Younis, director of Legends company for exhibitions and conferences.
