Bahrain and Russia sign Extradition Agreement

Manama : Bahrain and Russia signed an extradition agreement for enhancing security cooperation between both countries in Moscow yesterday.

“Foreign Affairs Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa and Russian Federation’s Justice Minister Alexander Konovalov signed today an Agreement on Extradition, as part of the steps taken by countries to enhance mutual cooperation at all levels,” announced Foreign Affairs Ministry in a press statement yesterday.

During the signing of the agreement, Shaikh Khalid affirmed that “the agreement reflects the development of relations between the two countries and their keenness to broaden cooperation and promote coordination mechanisms on various regional and international issues.”

Meanwhile, commenting on the deal, Konovalov stressed Russia’s keenness to improve and promote all aspects of joint cooperation with Bahrain, wishing the Kingdom further progress and prosperity.

The step comes within the articles of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during the visit of Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa to Moscow and St. Petersburg in 2014, calling for increasing cooperation between the countries in all fields.

The burgeoning Bahraini-Russian cooperation was proven during the visit of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to Moscow last February, when King Hamad met President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.

A high profile delegation accompanied HM the King during that visit. The delegation included Ministers and senior State officials. The visit resulted in signing several MoUs in the fields of energy, commerce and economy.

Moreover, six MoUs were signed by Bahrain and Russia last month during the visit of St. Petersburg’s Governor Georgy Poltavchenko to the Kingdom of Bahrain upon an invite of Capital Governorate Governor Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa.
