Bahrain court overturns conviction in embezzlement case

Manama : An Arab man accused of embezzling more than BD20,000 from a furniture outlet had his conviction overturned. He was earlier sentenced to four months in prison.

The incident was reported by the furniture shop owner, who accused him of forging receipts to pocket the money.

He stated that the defendant was his employee and was authorised to sign transactions on behalf of the shop.

The owner also presented to prosecutors several receipts with the signature of the defendant. However, the Lower Appeals Court pointed out that the defendant’s signature did not match with the one on the submitted papers.

Therefore, he was acquitted of embezzling any money from the shop, the appeals court’s ruling explained.
