SCD snatches tenth victim this year in Bahrain
Manama : Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) yesterday snatched its tenth Bahraini victim this year, at the rate of two deaths a month.
Bahrain Society for SCD Patients Care announced yesterday the demise of Ali Mayoof at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) due to SCD complications.
The society said the condition of Mayoof, who hails from Aali, continued to deteriorate while admitted at SMC’s Hereditary Blood Disorder Centre.
The society’s President Zakariya Al Kadhem said that the medical crew at the centre attempted to revive him for 50 minutes. However, their efforts were in vain as he succumbed to the disease.
Mayoof was laid to rest in Aali graveyard yesterday evening.
DT News reported earlier this year that the disease killed 31 Bahrainis in 2015, including 20 males and 11 females.
