Bahrain court postpone doctor attack ruling
Manama : The court ruling in the trial of three men convicted of attacking a medical doctor will be announced on June 23.
Two of the appellants were earlier sentenced to five years behind the bars each, while their accomplice was given only six months in prison.
According to court files, the victim was attacked violently by the trio following a comment he made on Instagram, which they deemed defamatory.
One of the victim’s female colleagues who came to visit him said that she was shocked to see the prime defendants trying to pull him out of his car before their accomplice joined
them.
“They attacked him with their bare hands and legs,” the eyewitness told prosecutors earlier, “Later, one of the men took a mug, which was in the doctor’s hand and banged his head with it,”
“I tried to block them, but then I requested the passersby to come and rescue my colleague,” she added.
The assault caused 21 per cent visual impairment to the victim’s left eye.
In their last appeal hearing, the defendants requested the court to hear a medical doctor who claimed that the victim underwent a visual surgery to correct his eyesight 18 years ago, alleging that the incident has only reversed the outcome of the successful operation.
The defendants have been convicted of causing physical harm to the victim.
