Bahrain court jails man for cheating
Manama : The Lower Criminal Court sentenced an Arab man to two years in prison for deceiving a Bahraini man. The accused allegedly conned BD50,000 off his victim after convincing the latter that they would jointly buy a property that wasn’t actually for sale.
The victim told prosecutors that he fell pray to the defendant’s glamorous appearance and luxury cars. “He told me that he was a businessman and the owner of a company,” the victim said in his statement.
“He discussed with me the idea of buying a property. I accepted and gave him BD50,000. Then he started avoiding me whenever I asked him about the ownership papers. When I finally contacted the owner of the property, he told me that it wasn’t for sale in first place,” he added.
The defendant will be deported from the country once he completes his jail term.
