One held for revenge killing in Muharraq
Manama : A person was held for stabbing another to death to avenge the death of his cousin. According to court reports, his cousin used to take drugs with the victim.
The defendant allegedly stabbed the victim several times on the chest on March 9 this year in Muharraq.
During interrogations, a friend of the alleged killer confirmed that the latter’s cousin died while he was taking illicit drugs with the victim.
“When I saw both of them (the accused and the victim) going out, I warned him (the accused) because the other was on drugs. But my friend said he is going to claim the victim’s life, like how he killed the cousin,” the alleged killer’s friend said.
The two of them (the accused and the victim) later dined at a restaurant when a disagreement broke out between them.
It ended with a knife being stabbed on the victim’s chest.
However, the defendant told prosecutors that he killed the victim in self defence.
“He has punched me several times. I tried to protect myself, and drew out the knife, which I used to stab him,” the defendant said.
He added “I didn’t act in retaliation over anything. It was only a fight. It suddenly broke out between us and I was trying to save my life.”
The accused has been charged with premeditated murder and face either life imprisonment or the death sentence if the court finds him guilty.
