Manama Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) members and businessmen of Old Souq Manama, Abdul Karim Al Fulaij and Nader Alawi, have asked all the 18 members of the board of directors to resign from their posts immediately.

They were addressing a press conference yesterday held at the Old Souq of Manama. Speaking to the media, Abdul Karim Al Fulaij said the budget passed in the General Assembly Meeting of BCCI on April 12 was invalid and illegal. He alleged that the proceedings of the budget were done on fake votes and forged documents were prepared to fulfil the legal requirements.

He said they had also filed a case in the court of law and gave away the copies of the case to the media. Fulaij said, “I myself was present at the meeting in which, the budget was passed. Two hundred votes are required to pass the budget and they counted the votes of eight members who were not present in the meeting.”

Fulaij claimed four of the absentees, Deema Ahmed, Mohammad Sajid, Nabeel Kanoo and Abdulla Hasan Bin Hindi were out of Bahrain on that day, while M Akram Jowdary, Khalid M Abdulrahim, Faisal M Abdulrahim and A Hakim Alshomary were absent due to personal reasons.

Its worth to note the voting system of BCCI follows a unique pattern. Each CR gets votes according to its financial standing i.e. the smaller companies get to cast fewer votes than the bigger and financially sound companies. “How can someone cast his vote without attending the meeting?” asked AlFulaij, “This is against the laws of Bahrain.” Nader Alawi said the case should be investigated thoroughly and it must be determined who is behind all this.

He requested Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to take action against those responsible. Alawi said the decisions taken in the meeting should be declared null and void.
