Expansion of Jasra Intersection by year end
Manama : Development works at one of the busiest intersections in the country have commenced last month and is expected to complete by year end, it has been recently announced.
Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry stated that the development of Jasra intersection costs around BD0.5 million and will include two stages.
According to the ministry’s Projects and Roads’ Maintenance Director Sayed Bader Alawi, the project will include an additional 1400-meter ramp for vehicles coming from Janabiya towards Manama, to ensure a non-stop traffic flow towards Shaikh Isa bin Salman Highway.
Alawi also said that additional entrances and exits will be added to the busy junction.
The official explained that the ministry is cooperating with Electricity and Water Authority to protect one of the main electricity stations in the area and Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) to preserve the oil and gas pipelines near the intersection.
He added that around 170 palm trees were relocated from the project’s site, which will witness noticeable expansion once the works are completed.
The ministry’s statement came after the area’s parliamentary and municipal representatives recently criticised the delay of the project, adding that they are receiving numerous complaints from citizens in regards to the never-ending traffic congestion in the area.
