Seven get life imprisonment for storing explosives

ManamaThe High Criminal Court yesterday sentenced seven men to life imprisonment for storing explosives in a Darkulaib warehouse.

Three other defendants embroiled in this case were sentenced to 15 years each, while a co-suspect was given three years behind the bars. Bahraini nationality of all the defendants was revoked.

The defendants were caught by the police after the Saudi authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle explosives into Saudi Arabia via King Fahd Causeway on May 8 2015.

Two Bahraini men were nabbed, and the Bahraini authorities launched investigations into the case. This led to the discovery of the warehouse in Darkulaib, and it was later found that the defendants were responsible for stashing bombs.

According to the court documents, the men were part of a terrorist outfit that was formed during the 2011 unrest in order to recruit Bahraini individuals. The group is said to have sent the recruits to Iran and Iraq to receive military training and then return to the Kingdom to spread violence.

The defendants were charged based on their confessions, the prosecution witnesses’ and the technical reports.
