Dr. Jawahery opens IFA conference in Moscow
Moscow : International Fertiliser Industry Association (IFA) President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery opened its 48th Annual Conference in the Russian Capital, Moscow.
Bahrain’s Ambassador to Russia Dr. Ahmed Al Sa’ati was present at the event, being held under the patronage of Russian Minister of Trade and Industry Denis Manturov.
In his speech, Dr. Jawahery, who is also the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) President, spoke about the importance of the fertiliser and raw materials industry and their strategic role in boosting agricultural yields to feed the world population. He also stressed on the concept of sustainability, which is not limited to institutions and individuals but is applied to all walks of life.
Dr. Jawahery urged all manufacturers to pay attention to the exchange of knowledge and experiences and make these available to all, to increase production efficiency and reduce the use of
energy.
The winner of the Norman Borlaug Award for the year 2016 was also announced during the opening ceremony. Soil scientist and former Ethiopian Minister of State of Agriculture, Professor Tekalign Mamo, was named as this year’s winner for his outstanding contributions to the restoration of soil health and improving plant nutrient management for more than 11 million small farmers in Ethiopia.
Dr. Ahmed Al Sa’ati praised the presence of a large Bahraini delegation at the event and said such international forums are a platform for the exchange of expertise and knowledge. He praised the professionalism of Dr. Jawahery and his leadership of the IFA as well as for his commitment in guiding the world body.
