Bahrain achieved SDGs: Minister

ManamaThe Kingdom of Bahrain has succeeded in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including the creation of appropriate jobs for all citizens and eradication of poverty, thanks to the comprehensive reforms of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, said Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel Humaidan yesterday.

Humaidan noted the efforts of the government that culminated in anchoring an integrated network for social security and protection and an advanced legislative set-up in line with the leadership’s vision.

“It’s also the leadership’s keenness on promoting constructive social dialogue between the three parties of production as well as consolidation of social partnership with civil society organisations,” he said.

He was addressing the representatives of the three partners of production attending the 10th International Labour Conference, in Geneva, Switzerland, held from May 29 to June 1.

The Minister pointed out that social justice, improvement of living standard and boosting social dialogue in the Kingdom are inseparable and integral part of the comprehensive reforms of His Majesty the King. He added that the Constitution of the Kingdom reflects the noble principles of social justice aimed to achieve highest levels of social solidarity, equality and the provision of appropriate living standard for citizens.

Humaidan also cited the Fifth Article, which obliges the State to accomplish the required social security for all elderly, sick, disabled, orphans, widows or unemployed citizens besides social insurance and healthcare.
