‘Nasser 9’ tournament begins

Manama : Khalifa Sports City Football Stadium hosted  two football matches on 03/06/16 as part of the second edition of Nasser bin Hamad Ramadan Sports Games “Nasser 9”. 

In the first game, the Al Museef team faces a tricky challenge against the Majestic Cars players, While in another match, Forever team faced Al Nawayef.

The Majestic Cars team coached by Hussain Ayyad, are eyeing to improve over their last year’s modest participation, where they saw themselves knocked out at the group stage. 

A victory in the first game will give a much-needed boost to the team’s morale and ensure they go to the next match in high spirit.

Forever coached by Salah Habib, a Bahraini national coach, will seek to earn the important three points, with a win, ahead of the next two clashes.

High expectations of tough competition 

HH Shaikh Nasser Championship enters its 9th edition amidst high expectations from all the participating teams.

Although, eight editions of the championship have been contested, there are only four teams that have so far made won the titles, including Al Zilzal, Al Fakhar, Victorious and Al Nawayef. 

Among them team Forever, who though having progressed to the advanced stages of the match, last year, were knocked out. Another similar example is the Nomas team which produced great showings in the last edition. 

Team Al Wehda who had journeyed quite far into the advanced stages of last year. The team is placed among the hopefuls as they had produced prominent displays.

This year’s edition will witness many ex-international players and professional stars, including overseas players.  Amongst them is Bahrain international player Mohammed Hussain - who plays for the renowned Saudi club Al Nasser- in addition to compatriot Mahmood “Ringo” Abdulrahman and ex-Bahrain international player Abdullah Al Marzouqi. On the other hand, Brazilian Diego and Ghanaian Mamado top the list among the foreign players competing in the tournament.

Draw of Junior Academics tournament held

The second edition of the championship for juniors from the local academies as per the kind directives of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee.

The draw of the tournament has been conducted and it put Tikers Team, Super Team, Kick Off Team and Arsenal in Group 1. The preliminary stage will be held on June 15 and 16.

On the next day, the matches will be as follows: Super against Arsenal at 9:30, Champions against Winners at 9:55, Super against Kick Off at 10:20, Champions against Discovery at 10:45, Tikers against Arsenal at 11:10 and Real Madrid against Winners at 11:30. The final rounds will take place on June 19.

The Organising Committee of Nasser 9 have allowed several Instagram users, specialised in covering sports activities to cover the championship’s events. This comes as part of the Organising Committee’s keenness to diversify the coverage of the tournament.
