Eleven jailbreak convicts arrested
Manama : Security authorities arrested 11 convicts, who had escaped from a penitentiary on Friday night, in less than 24 hours, while a manhunt has been launched for other six escapees.
The escapees were identified by Interior Ministry as Mohammed Abdulamir Mushaima (20), Yousif Ahmed Al Aradi (21), Sayed-Alawi Talib Hassan (21), Hassan Musa Mohammed (20), Mohamood Sayed-Adel Kadhem (21) and Abdullah Hussain Al Ajooz (21).
During a high-profile security meeting yesterday, chaired by Interior Minister Lt-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, a report on the incident was presented by ministry undersecretary.
The Ministry said in a statement that the meeting was held to review the circumstances of the escape of 17 detainees from the Dry Dock Detention Centre in Muharraq Governorate at 9.45pm on Friday.
The report also highlighted security efforts to arrest the fugitives. “So far, eleven of the detainees have been caught along with five others, who assisted in the planning and execution of the escape. The search continues for the remaining six escapees,” the statement read.
Shaikh Rashid applauded the cooperation from citizens and residents that contributed to the swift arrests of several of the fugitives.
He also warned against aiding and abetting the remaining fugitives, quoting Article 255 of the Penal Code that states, “Any person who either personally or through another provides shelter for a defendant accused in a serious crime or a felony that is punishable by imprisonment or against whom an arrest warrant has been issued, or a death sentence or a penalty involving deprivation of liberty has been passed, and being aware thereof, shall be liable for the punishments of jail term or fine.”
The Minister called upon to contact any security directorate or police station or to call the police hotline at 80008008, regarding the information on the fugitives.
