Bahrain court jails man for swindling BD300,000
Manama : The Lower Criminal Court sentenced two Arab men to three years behind bars each for swindling BD300,000 from a Bahraini man. One of the conmen is said to have convinced the victim with his ability to provide him with a bank guarantee worth BD1m.
The Bahraini was looking for a loan to finance a new project, and applied for BD1m from a bank. But the bank officials requested a bank guarantee for this amount, and one of the staff serving in the same bank guided him to the Arab man.
“He told me that the Arab man has influence and he can get me this guarantee as he did before for other customers,” the man said.
The conman is said to have requested the victim to pay him 20pc of the amount of the certificate. He told him that there was another man assisting him in his job. The two defendants were convicted in absentia.
