Hawar eco-tourism project create 3000 new jobs

Manama : Hawar is set to be transformed into a key eco-friendly tourism destination, bolstering the local and regional tourism industry, stated Bahrain Real Estate Investment (Edamah).

The project will also create 3,000 direct jobs, which will positively impact the domestic economy, added the real estate arm of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company (Mumtalakat) as it announced its plans for the project.

Through investments worth BD350 million, Edamah aims to position Hawar on the world map of island resort living, with state-of-the-art facilities, in collaboration with the private sector.

During a press briefing yesterday at Edamah’s offices in Arcapita building, Bahrain Bay, Edamah Acting CEO Mahmood Hashim Alkooheji reiterated the company’s commitment to transform Hawar islands  into a global destination that showcases the significance of the Kingdom’s natural beauty.

This is in line with the Royal directives that call for the development of the Bahrain’s vibrant southern region, while preserving its environmental significance and its status as a wildlife preservation zone.

Alkooheji stated that besides the Royal direction to undertake the transformation of Hawar Islands, a panel called Hawar Islands Planning & Development Committee has been formed under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.

The committee, whose members include influential dignitaries, aims to undertake specialist studies to guide the planning and execution of the development area and establishing a guide to steer future developments in a direction that promotes sustainable architectural, environmental, and touristic foundations.

The panel also aims to undertake necessary studies to assess infrastructure requirements, including transportation to and from the island and monitoring the above.
