Boy acquitted in theft case

Manama : The High Criminal Appeals Court confirmed the acquittal of a young Bahraini boy implicated in a theft case.

The accused was tried in connection with stealing drugs from Salmaniya Medical Complex in 2010.

The defendant went to the hospital as he was suffering from a disease.

A doctor prescribed to him Tramadol, considered a narcotic substance, to relieve him off his pain.

A senior official working in the hospital told police that he saw the defendant robbing medicines from there.

But the defendant’s lawyer, Abdulrahman Ghunaim, argued that his client was under the influence of drugs, as he had used the Tramadol prescribed to him.

He said that the defendant wasn’t aware of his acts and the drugs he had stolen weren’t of any use to him.

Judges at the court supported this argument and they dropped the charges against the defendant.
