BCCI expresses reservation over Parallel Bahrainisation

Manama : The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has expressed its reservation over the Parallel Bahrainisation System of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), which became effective on May 2,  2016.

The Chamber, in a statement, underlined that the implementation of the system came in contradiction to Article (5) section (B) of Law No. (19) of 2006 with regard to regulating the labour market, which states “The authority must consult the public and all stakeholders and solicit their views prior to issuing any rules, regulations, decisions or taking any measures with prominent impact on the labour market”.

The Chamber stressed that the decision constitutes an additional burden on business owners, particularly in light of the overall hike in expenses and fees. The Chamber called the LMRA to reconsider the decision and to communicate prior to enforcing decisions related to the private sector, in translation to the directives of Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa on the necessity of coordinating with the Chamber on all laws and decisions related to the private sector.

The Chamber expressed its confidence in the Labour Market Regulatory Authority and its understanding of the Chamber’s stance, which underlines considering all parties of concern when taking crucial decisions.
