UoB to set up teaching, leadership excellence unit
Manama: The University of Bahrain (UoB)- Board of Trustees meeting held yesterday decided to establish a unit for teaching excellence and leadership at the UoB.
The meeting, chaired by Minister of Education Dr Majid Al Nuaimi, also welcomed new President of UoB Prof. Riyad Hamzah to the university.
Other major decisions taken in the meeting include following a review of 21 centres as several have been closed immediately and now only eight of them remain. It has been decided that any outstanding projects or work will be transferred to colleges.
All language centres will be consolidated under one centre for languages.
The physiotherapy department will be transferred to the College of Health. Cooperation between the university and King Hamad Hospital will be strengthened to focus on development of assistant patient care programmes.
The meeting also decided to appoint a new Dean for the College of Law.
Prof. Hamzah presented to the Board of Trustees on recent progress and plans for the next six months, which include the presentation of a transformation plan and a new University structure.
According to him, the UoB will become a regional centre for higher education teacher training.
“In the space of a few months we have made progress. I am confident that our strides will be reflected in upcoming regional university rankings,” he added.
