Indian School lift championship
Manama: The Indian School defeated the Rest of the school by 49 runs in the final to lift the CBA –BOC School Cricket Junior Championship Trophy on 4 June at the Bahrain National Stadium ground.
Batting first, the Indian School has set a target of 150 runs. Opener Arvin Menezes played a superb innings to top score with a polished 62 runs and Govind Bingly has contributed a patient knock of 22 runs for the first wicket along with Arvin Menezes.
In reply, the Rest of the school was restricted to only 100 runs against the very tight bowling of the Indian School.
Jaleel Asad, the Executive Director of Sports Affairs in the Bahrain Olympic Committee, was the chief guest on the final day. The Cricket Bahrain Association President Saleem Elias, Rizwan Shah, Treasurer of CBA, Mukunda Warrier, the Head of Schools and Youth Cricket, Prachur Shukla, the Development Officer, National Coaches Rexy and Ajith were also present in the Award ceremony.
Saleem Elias, President, welcomed the Chief Guest and pointed out the CBA plan to concentrate more on youth cricket up to 19 years because they are the future of Bahrain. He also emphasised the upcoming International Cricket Council’s (ICC) - Under 19 tournament in Malaysia in September.
Bahrain National teams performance in the International tournament was highly appreciated and Under 16 team is ranked 4th and under 19 team is ranked 7th in Asia.
