Kingdom to celebrate Yoga Day on June 21

Manama: The Kingdom of Bahrain will celebrate the International Day of Yoga, as part of the awareness and celebration initiated by the Indian Government. It will be held on June 21 from 11am to 1.30pm.

The programme in Bahrain is held under the patronage of Minister of Health Faeqa bint Saeed Al Saleh, who will be the Chief Guest on the occasion. 

The event is also supported by the Indian Embassy and Princess AlJawhara Centre for Molecular Medicine and Inherited Disorders.

The programme will be held at Professor Rafia Ghubash Hall, Princess Al Jawhara Ibrahim Centre for Molecular Medicine near Salmaniya Medical Complex. Registration will start at 11am, followed by the official ceremony.

The Health Minister will deliver the Chief Guest address, followed by Indian Ambassador Alok Kumar Sinha. United Nations Information Centre Director Samir Intair Aldarabi will be the guest speaker.

The programme will consist of three parts: a seminar and workshop, yoga demonstration and a documentary film on yoga by the Indian Government. 

Fatima Al Mansoori, a certified yoga therapist from BDF Hospital, will speak on her personal experience. 

Ehsan Asghar, a renowned Iyengar Yoga Instructor, will also speak on the advantages of yoga and will demonstrate some Yoga techniques. 

Raja Abdulla Ali Hejair, a psychologist from Psychiatric Hospital, will talk on “Yoga and Mental Health.” 

Officials from various Ministries, Public Sector organisations, medical field and dignitaries are expected to participate. The programme is mainly intended to provide awareness of the benefits of yoga to the residents of Bahrain, especially among Bahrainis.

All participants will be given a folder containing a booklet on various yoga techniques published by India’s Ministry of AYUSH, a CD on yoga, an informative leaflet on combating hypertension, and a Certificate of Participation. 

Since the seats are limited, it will be on basis of first cum first serve, except for special invitees. 

Cancer Care Group, affiliated to Bahrain Cancer Society, will also participate in the programme, stated CCG President Dr P.V Cheriyan and General Secretary K.T Salim.

International Yoga Day, or simply Yoga Day, is celebrated annually on June 21 and was declared to be internationally recognised by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on December 11, 2014. 

Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual practice or discipline that originated in India. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his UN address suggested the date of June 21, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares special significance in many parts of the world.
