Man held at knifepoint for Money dispute

Manama: Bahraini man was held at knifepoint by an Arab national after he asked the latter to pay the money he owed to him. While speaking to DT News yesterday, the distressed man said he reported the case to the police and he was told that he will be contacted today to follow up the matter.

The man, who preferred anonymity, informed that the Arab national was his friend, who arrived in Bahrain around two years ago.

“He told me that he had financial problems in his homeland, which is witnessing a civil war. He sought my help to get loan from a local financing company,” the victim said.

“This happened around eight months ago. We both went to the company, which required a Bahraini national to sponsor him, so he would be lent BD1, 200,” he explained.

The Arab national apparently didn’t pay the monthly instalments to the company for two months. So the Bahraini man was contacted by the firm after the man changed his contact number.

“When I went to meet him, our conversation snowballed into arguments. Then he threatened me at knifepoint. I immediately reported the incident to the police,” the man said.

“A relative of the man assured me that the money would be paid to the company today,” he added.
