New CCTV will reduce violations

Manama :The new CCTV traffic monitoring system received positive response from officials in the country. The officials affirmed that the new system would contribute in reducing traffic accidents and ensure smooth traffic flow.

Traffic Culture Director at the General Directorate of Traffic Lieutenant Colonel Osama Bahar said the focus of launching the new smart system is to reduce traffic violations and eventually lessen traffic accidents and possible injuries and fatalities.

In an interview with Bahrain TV Channel, Lt. Col. Bahar explained, “The new smart system is different from the ordinary CCTV cameras installed at different places in the Kingdom. The existing system records the traffic flow and they’re referred in case of an accident to determine the identities of the drivers involved. The new system automatically detects wrong traffic behaviours, follow the course of violating vehicles and predict traffic congestions in certain areas.”

Sharing a similar opinion, Roads and Transportation Professor at the Engineering College in the University of Bahrain Hashim Al Madani said, “The efficiency of the new smart cameras have been proven worldwide. The new system follows a modern technology to detect violators and register violations. It will contribute in managing traffic violations and reduce fatalities caused by traffic accidents.”

As reported on Saturday, the new CCTV cameras are fully operational.

Traffic General Director Shaikh Nasser bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa stated earlier that the cameras will detect violations such as speeding, wrong overtaking and crossing red signal, driving on yellow boxes and emergency lanes, in addition to the use of mobile phones while driving and not wearing seat belts.
