Manama: Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning Essam Khalaf inaugurated the North Town Entrance Roads Revamp Project (W-LINK), funded by the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development (as part of the Gulf Development Programme).
The inauguration was also attended by the Works Affairs Undersecretary Ahmed Al Khayyat, Roads Assistant Undersecretary Huda Fakhro, supervising team of engineers from the Ministry, project consultant and representatives from Haj Hassan Group (in charge of implementation) and Al Ghanim Kuwaiti Company.
Khalaf stated that the project, which would serve 5000 housing units, is part of the Ministry’s plan to provide infrastructure services in the Northern Governorate.
The Minister also noted that a building belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture will be demolished as part of the project and that the ministry is presently reviewing final designs to construct an alternative building.
Constructing a 1.2km long road with 4 lanes on each direction, connecting Janabiya and Budaiya Interchange to the North Town, is also being mooted. The road includes a 135m long bridge above the marine channel, thereby providing a smooth traffic flow.
The Ministry had earlier removed Budaiya Roundabout and replaced it with traffic signals to increase its capacity and safety level.
