Nabeel Rajab rearrested in Bahrain
Manama : Bahraini security forces on Monday rearrested opposition activist Nabeel Rajab, his family said on Twitter.
Rajab, 51, who was detained in 2014 for tweets deemed insulting to Bahrain before his release on health grounds, was arrested at his home in the village of Bani Jamra near Manama.
"Rajab was arrested from his house and his house was searched," Sumaya Rajab, his wife, posted on Twitter.
The activist, who has led anti-government marches had previously served two years in jail for taking part in unauthorised protests.
He was sentenced to six months in jail for his tweets but pardoned in July 2015 after HM King Hamad issued a royal pardon "for health reasons".
Also on Monday, an appeals court in Bahrain upheld jail terms of between 10 and 15 years against 11 convicted of forming a "terrorist group" that planned attacks against police and the Saudi embassy in Manama among other charges, a judicial source said.
It also confirmed a previous criminal court order to revoke their citizenships, the source said.
A court in May more than doubled the jail sentence against opposition leader Sheikh Ali Salman, who is now set to serve nine years in prison for charges of inciting violence.
