Intertek Lab approved to carry out SASO testing

Manama: Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, announced that its laboratory in Shanghai, China, has been approved by Saudi Arabian Standards Organization (SASO) to conduct energy efficiency testing for cage-induction motors exported to Saudi Arabia.

The lab serves as a bridge between China-made motors and SASO certification, facilitating Chinese motors access to the Saudi Arabian market.

In 2013, SASO and Saudi Energy Efficiency Centre (SEEC) introduced energy efficiency standard SASO IEC 60034-30 for cage-induction motors rated single-speed, three-phase, 50/60 Hz, up to 1000V rated voltage and 0.75kW to 375kW rated power, which defines requirement for the lowest energy efficiency grade MEPS.

The standard specifies that energy efficiency grade of three phase cage-induction motors produced or imported into Saudi Arabia shall be no lower than IE2 on and after July 1, 2015, and no lower than IE3 on and after Jan 1, 2017.

Starting from the dates of enforcement, motors which do not meet the related energy efficiency grades are not allowed to be sold in Saudi Arabia. Only testing reports issued by SASO approved laboratories are accepted by Saudi Arabia.

Intertek Shanghai is one of the only two SASO approved laboratories in China.
