Teacher’s case against varsity rejected
Manama: A teacher’s lawsuit against the University of Bahrain on account of not being given a new contract has been
rejected.
The professor was serving on contract basis at the university, but then he wasn’t offered a new contract.
The plaintiff signed for the university while he was holding an Arab nationality. He earned the Bahraini nationality later.
According to his complaint, the university didn’t extend to him an equal treatment as given to his Bahraini counterparts. But the court said the nationality has nothing to do with imposing a firm to renew the contract of the employee.
The court stated that the plaintiff’s contract expired and offering a new one isn’t subject to the rule of law as it’s the right of the university to decide based on its benefits.
“The plaintiff hasn’t been arbitrarily sacked by the university as shown in the documents of the case. He hasn’t been offered a new contract, and for this the university hasn’t violated any labour law,” the court ruling read.
