Indian Embassy to mark International Day of Yoga

Manama : The Indian Embassy in Bahrain will organise an event to mark the International Day of Yoga on June 21 at Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam Hall, Delmun Avenue, Segaya from 8.30 to 10.30pm.

On December 11, 2014, the 193-member United Nations General Assembly adopted by consensus, with a record 177 co-sponsoring countries, a resolution to establish June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.

Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; and a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not merely about exercise, but to discover the sense of openness with yourself, the world and nature – a union of thought, action, knowledge and devotion.

Today, we are at a point in history where global warming threatens the very existence of our world.

The world’s ecology is threatened by human greed and excess. Yoga shows the way to consumption that is need-based, healthy, balanced and in tune with nature.

Yoga is much more than a physical exercise – it enables us to access a new dimension of the self.  This ‘new dimension’ is critical for the age that we live in – overloaded with information, stretched by the pressure of daily life, and confronted by constant challenges – yoga helps us to restore our balance and furnishes us with a much needed sense of clarity. Through yoga, we seek completeness and above all – a oneness with the world.
