Baharain man gets nod for name change

Manama: A Lower Criminal Court has recently approved the request of a karate performer, who wanted to change his name Bashar to Fahad as his name has similarities with Syrian President Bashar Al Asad.

“My client got impacted with the massacres being committed in Syria. He was feeling embarrassed because of his name, especially he is an international performer,” said the lawyer of the plaintiff whose request was initially rejected before filling a case at the Lower Criminal Court.

Current local laws decline applications to change names except in cases, where the name is causing acute embarrassment to its holder or the applicant converted to Islam wishes a name that goes in line with the religion.
