Minister and Governor discuss urban development projects

ManamaMinister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Essam Khalaf and the Governor of the Northern Governorate, Ali bin Al Shaikh Abdulhussain Al Asfoor yesterday discussed urban development projects in the Northern Governorate.

During their meeting, a full report on urban development projects at the governorate was presented to the Minister.

It explained that developing and improving the society is part of municipal councils’ scope of work; as stated in the Municipalities Law No.35 for the year 2001. The Towns and Villages Development Project (Former Social Service Project), which is implemented in coordination with all concerned entities, aims to provide construction services for the low-income families, the report stated.

Al Asfoor said a number of field visits were made to a number of villages, to ensure that they are compatible to the programme. “The report covered 36 villages, nine of which have been detected and three have been included within the work agenda. Official letters have been sent to all the concerned entities at Ministries.”

Meanwhile, Minister Khalaf commended the collaboration between the Ministry and all governorates; especially the Northern Governorate.

He also revealed that the Ministry had earlier started the programme by developing five villages at the Northern Governorate. “Later, one village was chosen to undergo development every year. About 10 areas from the four Governorates have been chosen as well,” the Minister added.
