Patient’s murder in Bahrain hospital: Probe begins

Manama: The Public Prosecution has launched an investigation into a murder that occurred in the Psychiatric Hospital in Salmaniya on Friday.

“The Public Prosecution was notified about a murder that occurred inside the Psychiatric Hospital. A non-Bahraini convict, who was admitted in the hospital assaulted another patient, resulting in his death, as informed by the hospital,” Capital Governorate Chief Prosecutor Nawaf Al Awadhi said in a press statement.

Al Awadhi confirmed that the Public Prosecution initiated investigations once notified by the hospital. The victim’s body was examined and bruises were detected on his neck and face.

“The crime scene was inspected, while a coroner was assigned to prepare the autopsy report. The prosecution heard the testimonies of a number of the hospital officials and staff, and the suspect was interrogated,” Al Awadhi stated.

He added that the suspect was detained pending further investigations.

DT News reported yesterday that the victim was identified as Ibrahim Ali Al Asmakh from Aali. His relatives informed that he was frequently admitted to the hospital to receive depression treatment.

His death certificate showed that the cause of death was due to cardiopulmonary arrest, asphyxia and strangulation.

He was laid to rest at his hometown graveyard on Friday evening.
