Every Child is an Artist

Manama: Spanish painter and sculptor    Pablo Picasso once said:  Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.    The students of Al Wisam School, Budaiya are way beyond the saying and they have shown the excellence in their paintings in various mediums. DT News got a chance to interact with these budding artists along with their art teacher,    Jess Ramos Tejada.  The school has a definitive strategy to teach their students in academics, art and culture.  They believe that by doing so, the children will set a moral example to others.

DT News met five of the primary students – Jood Mohammed Jafar Zainab Mohammed , Ahmed Jaffar  of Grade II , Ali Adel of Grade I and Abdul Rahman of Grade IV. The students were highly motivated by the classes of Mr. Jess who believes that the basic art classes develop their mental strength and lead to them to associate with the society in different ways.  The students are taught to use all kinds of materials so that their artistic caliber should not stick on to one medium.

Mr. Jess    who recently received an award ( 2016 Bagong Bayani) from the Philippines President  titled ‘Modern heroes of Philippines working abroad) said:  “ My students have  shown  immense quality and dedication to their artworks. While some of them liked to draw portraits and landscapes, others preferred to draw their favourite animals in lines and strokes.    I think that these students will be future engineers, architects or photographers.

“We allow our children to think and explore by themselves.  We conduct our training stage by stage.  We ask them not to follow any specific rules, but to follow their instincts and create their own arts works.  For example, we introduce to them different kinds of materials such as white paper, black chart paper, and even a sand paper to explore their artistic skills”, he added.
