Conman gets 5 years in prison
Manama: An Egyptian restaurant employee has been sentenced to five years in jail for conning a local bank of BD31,000 after pretending to be a medical doctor. However, the defendant has been found guilty in absentia as he is understood to have fled the country.
As per the court records, the man is believed to have forged the documents in a bid to buy luxury cars worth BD27,000 and a credit card with credit limit of BD 4,000.
Prosecutors said that he had furnished a fake salary certificate showing an income of BD1,941, and the bank found that he had fled the country using the vehicle that he purchased. He also used all the credit limit in the card before fleeing away. Bank officials said they discovered that the paperwork was fake after he stopped paying his dues.
