MPs pledge full support to security measures

Manama: Bahraini lawmakers yesterday pledged  full support to measures taken by the government to ensure security.

According to Parliament First Deputy Speaker Ali Al Aradi, “a general popular satisfaction” followed the procedures taken by the authorities. “The steps have been taken to correct political work, preserve national security and stability and protect national unity and cohesion.”

“Parliament is obliged today to provide full support to the official measures implemented to combat sedition, sectarianism and segregation. We’ll utilise our authorities to pass and support any laws and proposals that serves the same purpose,” Al Aradi said during a meeting held between four Ministers and the MPs.

Meanwhile, in a press statement yesterday, MP Adel Al Assoomy, who represents Hoora and Gudaibiya areas in the Council, requested people to support such procedures that protect the safety and stability of the Kingdom.

He added that “it’s important at this stage to preserve national unity and combat sedition by holding on to the reforming project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.”

Commenting on the recent decision by the Cabinet to strip Al Wefaq Islamic Society’s spiritual leader Isa Qassim off his Bahraini citizenship, MP Jamal Buhassan said in another statement that “the decision is a strong deterrent against those who are tampering with the security and stability of the Kingdom.”

Buhassan, who’s also a member of the Parliament Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee, denied foreign claims that criticised the government’s decision.

“It wasn’t an arbitrary decision as alleged by some international groups and organisations. It was taken after a long series of intensive investigations, which proved Qassim’s involvement in terrorism, sectarian and political cases,” Buhassan clarified.

Shura Council Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee member Sawsan Taqawi recalled some of the decisions taken during the last extraordinary meeting of the National Assembly (Parliament and Shura Council) meeting held in July, 2013.

“The second recomm-endation of the meeting stipulated revoking the Bahraini citizenship of individuals, who committed or incited on acts of terror. Isa Qassim has been proven to be involved in a number of dangerous violations that harmed the Kingdom,” Taqawi added.
