Society case: Court advances date of hearing

Manama:  Civil Court has advanced the date of hearing the case of disbandment of Al Wefaq Islamic Society to June 23 from October 6.

The decision was taken based on a request filed by the Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs and
Endowments.

Last week, the High Administrative Court ordered the suspension of the society and to freeze its assets for supporting terrorist
groups.  The decision follows a case filed by Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa against the society for breaching the political societies law and supporting terrorist groups.

Shaikh Khalid stressed that after following the society’s activities, it was evident that the foundation of the society has become a dangerous threat to the country.

According to him, the society had systematically breached the constitution.

The accusations against the society also include calling for foreign interventions in the country’s affairs, doubting the legislative authority, prejudicing the judiciary and operating within the framework of external religious reference.

The Minister also requested the court to dissolve the society and liquidate its assets.
