Students foster Islamic values

ManamaAhlia University students performed “Iftar on the road” campaign by distributing mineral water, milk, dates, cakes and light sandwiches to drivers and passengers on cross section roads, particularly the King Fahd Causeway.

Founding President of the university Prof. Abdullah Al Hawaj and Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Mansoor Al Aali along with the university professors and employees, participated in the campaign.

Prof. Abdullah Al Hawaj said that it was aimed primarily to promote Islamic values in society and develop social solidarity and responsibility of college students. “This campaign embodies the meaning of love and brotherhood among citizens. It fosters the spirit of social responsibility as well as preventing drivers from speeding, in order to break the fast,” he added.

Ahlia University students distributed about 2,000 meals to drivers during iftar time on Tuesday and Wednesday. Besides, dua’a - prayer books for travel and miswak – traditional twig to brush teeth, were also distributed.

Students were divided into groups with faculty members supervising them during the campaign.

Student Jamal Al Seeb said that the student volunteer campaign was organised in cooperation with authorities such as the General Directorate of Traffic authorities.

The keenness of university students to be involved in the importance of humanitarian work was reflected throughout the campaign.

The university and its programmes aim to develop the spirit of social responsibility in shaping students’ mind, by promoting Arab-Islamic values. Through this, the university encourages positive interactions between students and faculty members.
