Parliament HR panel backs legal measures

Manama Bahrain Parliamentary Human Rights Committee yesterday reaffirmed its support to the judiciary and administrative procedures taken by the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Committee said in a press statement that it supports the judiciary verdict to temporary shutdown Al Wefaq Islamic Society and revoking the citizenship of religious figure Isa Qassim. It highlighted that these procedures were in line with the Kingdom’s Constitution and local laws, especially the one regulating the work of political societies.

“It’s necessary to be decisive with the parties that attempt to harm the Kingdom’s security and stability. We welcome this brave decision, which comes in line with the reforming project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, which founds the basics of democracy and principles of human rights in the country,” the Committee’s statement read.

The Committee also said, “Exploiting freedom of expression to defame Bahrain, create chaos and fulfill foreign ambitions is rejected and is a violation that is punished by the law.”

It also criticised the statements made by some “suspicious” organisations that work under the umbrella of international human rights organisations, calling upon these organisations to seek information from reliable sources.

Committee Head Nasser Al Qasseer commented, “What has been taken by the government is necessary to preserve national interests and security.”

“These are correct legal procedures taken in the appropriate time to correct the political work in Bahrain. It’s to reform the political work in a way to benefit the country and its people, by enforcing peace, security and strengthening national unity,” Al Qasseer added.

These statements were made following the government’s recent decisions to shutdown a number of violating political and Islamic societies in Bahrain.

The government also   stripped a controversial religious cleric off his citizenship after investigations proved his involvement in serious violations that harm the Kingdom.
