US citizen finds good Samaritans in Bahrainis
Manama : A group of benefactors came to the rescue of the US citizen, who has been stranded at the Bahrain International Airport (BIA) for 20 days.
They brought Joseph Morris, 57, alias Mohammed Abdulaziz to a mosque on Muharraq Island on Thursday night. He was also provided with a temporary room and a daily Iftar (breaking the fast) meal.
Speaking to DT News, Jamal Mattar, who was among the humane men, said, “After reading his story, we felt that leaving him in the airport in such a state is unacceptable. So, we brought him here. He can stay here and share prayers and Iftar meals with his Muslim brothers until his issue is solved.”
Morris is now staying in Al Nafeesy Mosque in the Dry Dock Industrial Area. Mattar along with a group of Bahrainis staying at the mosque during the weekends to perform I’tikaaf, which is an Islamic practice to stay in a mosque for a certain number of days, devoting oneself to worshipping and staying away from worldly affairs.
Meanwhile, Morris, who accused the US Government of racial and religious discrimination, expressed his concern about his relationship with his son. “He believes that his father doesn’t want him anymore,” he told DT News.
Morris arrived at the BIA in the beginning of the Holy Month of Ramadan. He had been staying there ever since, as he was denied entry to Kuwait where he has been residing for almost 15 years.
He is keen on re-entering Kuwait to reunite with his 13-year-old son Abduaziz, who was born to his Kuwaiti ex-wife.
He had informed DT News earlier that he was denied entry to Kuwait due to an electronic error in the immigration and residency system in Kuwait, which “mistakenly” blacklisted him almost four years ago.
According to him, though he had conveyed this issue to a US Embassy official in Bahrain, no one from the embassy contacted him so far.
