Al Wefaq trial date advanced to June 28
Manama : The High Civil Court has advanced the hearing date of the trial regarding the dismantling of Al Wefaq Islamic Society.
The new date of the second hearing of the case has been scheduled to take place on June 28 instead of September 4.
The decision comes after the court accepted the Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments’ request to advance the date of hearing.
It is the second time the court has accepted such a request after it had advanced the initial hearing of the case from October 4 to June 23.
The High Administrative Court had earlier ordered the suspension of the society and its assets frozen for supporting terrorist groups.
The decision follows a case filed by Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa against the society for breaching the political societies law and supporting terrorist groups.
The Minister stressed that after following the society’s activities it has become clear that its foundations have become a dangerous threat to the country.
He said that the society had systematically breached the constitution, which questions its legitimacy.
The accusations against the society also include calling for foreign interventions in the country’s affairs, doubting the legislative authority and prejudicing the judiciary as well as operating within the framework of external religious reference.
