Bahraini boy killed in accident

Manama : In a tragic accident, a seven-year-old Bahraini boy was killed in Bani Jamra on Monday night. The boy, Feras Hussain, was reportedly mowed down by a minibus in one of the village’s alleys. Paramedics declared him dead on the spot.

Confirming the incident, the Interior Ministry stated on its official Twitter page: “A child died when he was hit by a car in Bani Jamra area. Police are at the scene.”

The boy’s body was laid to rest in Al Imam Graveyard, a few metres away from his family’s house in Jidhafs by 5pm yesterday.

At the funeral, a close relative told DT News that Firas was hit by the vehicle when he went out of the house to buy some candy from the nearby cold-store.

“The rear tyres of the vehicle ran over his head. He died on the spot,” he said choking back his tears.

DT News has learnt that the driver was a Bahraini man, who was apparently driving recklessly. But this information couldn’t be verified with the authorities or the boy’s relative. He said, “The incident is being investigated by concerned authorities. It’s too early to make such accusations.”

Feras was the eldest between his two siblings and had just passed his first year of school. “He has a three-year-old brother. His mom gave birth to his sister a few months ago,” he said. “Feras was very calm and gentle. He wasn’t as naughty as the other kids of his age. He always smiled and respected the elders.”

According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place while everyone was busy with the commemorations of Imam Ali’s death in the village.

Hussain Abdulemam, the boy’s father, said, “He didn’t want to go to Bani Jamra. I took him to his last fate. We reached there at 10pm and I was told he’s dead at 11pm.” The father fainted soon, and family members and friends carried him outside the graveyard.

It was announced during the funeral that men’s condolences could be offered starting today at Abdulhussain bin Jaffar Maatam (community centre) in Jidhafs.
