Men's Bahraini nationality stripped off in terror case

ManamaThree defendants accused of having links with a terrorist group named Saraya Al Mukhtar Brigade had their Bahraini nationality stripped. Two of them also received a jail sentence of 15 years each, while their fugitive co-defendant was given 10 years in prison.

The latter is believed to be in Iraq, and according to court files he recruited the second defendant for the terrorist group.

He also tasked him to induct new members for Saraya Al Ashtar. So he recruited the third defendant to assist him in carrying out the terrorist acts. The first defendant is said to have also introduced the second suspect to the leaders of the terrorist group.

Investigations found that the duo provided logistic support to members of Saraya Al Mukhtar to carry out terrorist acts across Bahrain. The second defendant told prosecutors that he had planted a bomb in A’ali, while officers seized a fake bomb and several phones, a laptop and a pistol from his home.

According to court files, the third defendant was arrested at the Bahrain International Airport, while trying to flee to Iraq. They were convicted of joining a terrorist group, using and possessing explosives. The second defendant was also charged with receiving funds for the group. He was fined BD200,000.
