Capacity increase: BIA to handle 14m a year

ManamaThe Airport Modernization Programme (AMP) at Bahrain International Airport (BIA) upon completion would increase its capacity to 14 million passengers a year, it was revealed yesterday. 

This was announced during a briefing session held by BIA at Mövenpick Hotel, Muharraq.  The session was attended by Abdulla Janahi, Chief Development and Technical Officer of BAC,  Mohamed Khalil, Chief Commercial Officer of BAC, in addition to airline country and airport managers, cargo airlines, BAC management and staff.

Commenting on the project, Abdulla Janahi, Chief Development & Technical Officer of BAC said, “We are expecting to complete the project in 2019, and expect to see an increase in direct flights and numbers of airline using the new passenger terminal building as a result.”

“The AMP is set to elevate the Bahrain International Airport (BIA) infrastructure and services. When completed, it is expected to increase the airport’s capacity and revitalize much of the potential in the aviation industry in Bahrain and the northern gulf region,” he added. 

The Airport Modernization Programme, according to BIA, is one of the most important strategic projects for the Kingdom of Bahrain, as the Airport serves all economic sectors and is a gateway for Bahrain to the rest of the world. 

The AMP is the largest infrastructure project for Bahrain International Airport in over 30 years and is being executed in line with the highest standards of safety, security, technology and the environment. A welcome note was given by Mohammed Khalil, Chief commercial Officer of BAC, followed by an overview presentation and video about the Airport Modernization Programme by Abdulla Janahi Chief Development & Technical Officer, BAC.  Existing airlines country and airport managers and cargo operators at Bahrain International Airport participated.
