High panel for Overseas Treatment rejigged

ManamaPrime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa yesterday restructured the High Committee for Overseas Treatment and named Dr. Fahad bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, the representative of the Military Hospital as its chairman. 

To this end, the Premier issued Edict 35/2016 amending some provisions of Edict 37/2014 on establishing the High Committee for Overseas Treatment.

The committee also comprises three consultant doctors from the Housing Ministry, with one of them as Deputy Chairman, Head of the Overseas Treatment Department at the Ministry of Health, a consultant doctor from the Military Hospital and a consultant doctor from the King Hamad University Hospital.

The panel may invite specialists to attend its meetings without giving them the right to vote. The Committee shall have a rapporteur, who is nominated by the President of the Supreme Council for Health (SCH).

According to a statement, the Committee shall receive treatment applications from the Royal Court, the Court of the Prime Minister or the Court of the Crown Prince, the sides determined by the Ministerial Committee for Financial Affairs and Rationalising Expenditure, the Salmaniya Medical Complex and the King Hamad University Hospital. It shall examine the applications and decide whether they need abroad treatment, treatment in the Kingdom or the possibility of benefitting from the “Visiting Consultant Doctor.”

“The panel shall prepare its annual budget, unify the visiting consultant doctors’ programme, coordinate with the SCH in determining the number and specialties of visiting consultant doctors and put forward regulations to ensure that all the citizens benefit from its services. It will also devise regulations that ensure that the Bahraini medical staff benefit from the visiting consultant doctors’ programme,” it added.

A new article (4 bis) shall be added to Edict 37/2014. It stipulates that the budget allocated for the Committee shall be managed in coordination with the Overseas Treatment Department. 

The President of the Supreme Council for Health shall implement the edict, which takes effect a day after its publication in the Official Gazette.
